Maricela Argelis Shields, 47, of Milford, beloved wife of nearly 20 years to Daniel Shields, passed away on April 7, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 13, 1976, in Panama City, Panama, she was the daughter of Jose and Juanna Flores.
Maricela graduated from the Instituto Episcopal San Cristobal (High School) in Panama in 1993. Maricela graduated with honors as a Merchant Marine from Kings Point Academy in 2000. She enjoyed music and actively participated in the academy band playing the clarinet. With the marching band, she participated in two Macy’s Thanksgiving Parades. She was an avid runner and she completed both half marathons as well as a full marathon (Hartford Marathon) in 2014.
In her career, she worked as an Assistant Ship Broker. She worked at both Sound Tanker Chartering and Safe Harbour. She was an exceptionally hard worker and loved what she did.
She especially loved to spend time with her beloved family. You could not separate her from her two dogs, Sprinkles and Lucas. Mari enjoyed traveling to Panama and connecting with her family, friends, and roots. As a devoted mother to her daughter and sons, she spent most of her days participating in all their activities, regardless of her situation or health condition.
Along with her husband and parents, Maricela leaves behind her cherished children, Guadalupe, Nicholas, Nathan, and Noah Shields; her sisters, Adriana Flores and Marlene Flores; her sister-in-law, Maribeth Shields; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and good friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home 107 Broad Street, Milford, CT 06460. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish), 70 Gulf St., Milford (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Interment will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery, Buckingham Ave., Milford.
