Tribute

Helen Mary (Rubino) Andersen (nee Efinger), 83, of Milford, passed away Saturday February 8th, 2020. Born on March 10, 1936 in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Ellen Maloney Efinger, and sister to the late Rita (Gumble) Sabatino.

Helen is survived by her children, Stephen Richard Rubino (wife Linda Sammartano) of Windsor CT, Donna Ellen Rubino (husband John DiLeonardo) of Hampton, VA and Ellen Mary Rubino Sanchez (husband Robert Sanchez), of Hampton, VA and grandchildren, Sophia Rose Rubino, and Dante Michael Rubino of Windsor, CT, and nephew, William Gumble of New York City. Helen was predeceased by her first husband, Michael R. Rubino, and her second husband, Richard H. Andersen.

Upon graduating High School in the Bronx, Helen joined the FBI as an executive secretary, married Michael R. Rubino, and bore three children before moving to Stamford, CT, where the family was to live for more than a dozen years. Following the untimely passing of her husband Helen moved to Milford, where she was to become a senior loan officer for both U.S. Motors and Parda Federal Credit Union at Schick Manufacturing, Inc. There, she was to meet Richard H. Andersen, with whom she shared many of her remaining years.

Helen was a devoted and loving wife and mother, and a dedicated friend to those she held dear. She enjoyed R&B-tinged rock and jazz, supported environmental, humanitarian and social causes, birdwatching, loved her cat and was a proud Democrat. In addition to the time she shared with family and friends, Helen donated time to The United Way of Milford, the Literacy Volunteers of Southern Connecticut.

To know Helen was to be touched by a truly gentle and gracious soul. To quote one close friend, “Helen would give you all she had and be truly selfless in doing so.” She will always be in our hearts.

Helen will be laid to rest 11:00am Saturday March 7th at St. John’s Cemetery, 25 Camp Avenue, (Springdale) Stamford, CT. She will be remembered in services at St. Gabriel’s Church, 26 Broadway, Milford, CT, on Sunday March 8th at 8:15am & 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting for those wishing to honor her memory, that a small donation be made to the  Democratic National Committee and/or the National Resource Defense Council.
