Frederick David Pitt, Jr., 84, of Milford, beloved husband of Barbara Martaus Pitt, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2020. Fred was born on March 15, 1936 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Frederick and Ruth Pitt, Sr.
Fred proudly served in the Strategic Air Command (SAC), a division of the United States Air Force as an aerial photographer. He followed in his family’s footsteps as a third generation railroad employee, where he worked as a Power Supervisor. A man of many talents, Fred was creative and became a skilled landscaper. One of his main passions was baseball. He did not just enjoy baseball/softball, Fred loved baseball in all forms - playing, watching, coaching and especially teaching his two sons baseball. He could fix anything and was known as “MacGyver” in some circles.
A very early riser, you could always find Fred at his favorite diner, enjoying coffee and breakfast with the camaraderie of his friends. He was very active and enjoyed running marathons and strolling along the beaches of the Connecticut coastline. He was fascinated with war planes and like the rest of his family, was a true movie buff. Fred truly loved his wife and family and he was a doting father taking great pride in his son’s and grandson’s accomplishments. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family and friends and everyone that knew him will miss his witty personality and his ability to find the humor in anything.
Along with his wife, Fred is survived by his sons, Frederick D. (Kim) Pitt III and Michael J. Pitt; grandson, Michael F. Pitt, Jr.; brother-in-law, Butch (Arlene) Martaus; longtime friend, Joe Raffone; and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Lillian, and his parents-in-law, Rudy and Gertrude Martaus.
Military Honors will be served on Friday, November 13, 2020 at 1 p.m. at the State Veteran's Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT 06457 (MEET DIRECTLY AT THE CEMETERY).
