Diane F. Sawicki, 80, long-time resident of Maspeth, NY, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2019. She was born on March 12, 1939, in the Polish neighborhood of Greenpoint Brooklyn, NY to the late Walter and Anna Strumczinska Sawicki.

Diane worked as a legal secretary for a number of well-known law firms, the most prestigious of which was the “White Glove” firm of Donovan, Leisure, Newton & Irving located in Rockefeller Center in NYC. She was deeply religious and very active in the vibrant Polish community in Maspeth, Queens NY. She was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans USA Ladies Auxiliary F. Kowalinski Chapter 4; Juniper Park Civic Association, Inc.; Association of the Miraculous Medal; Holy Cross Church Golden Age Club - Diocese of Brooklyn, where she had served as past Secretary. She had also served for many years as a member of the Pulaski Day Parade Committee, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Polish National Hall Maspeth, Queens and, along with her brothers, were members of the Polish Falcons of America Sport and Youth Association. Diane was a skilled Polka dancer and for many years was a member of a local Krakowiak dance group and had practiced with the prestigious world-renown Mazowsze Polish Folk Dance Group in her younger years. As a teenager, she was an avid Brooklyn Dodgers fan and later continued to root for the New York Mets. She was an accomplished figure skater and spent many years skating at the Manhattan Sky Rink and the Queens New York World’s Fair Ice Rink, where she often-times practiced with Olympic and upcoming Pros. Although having no family of her own, she loved her two seal-point Siamese Cats and adopted her nieces and nephews Geoffrey, Erin, Ryan, Amanda and Matthew as if they were her own.

Diane will be greatly missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Diane is survived by her brother, Walter Robert (“Robbie”) (Joan) Sawicki; her nephew, Geoffrey (Elizabeth) Sawicki; her great nephews and nieces, Ryan (Amanda) Sawicki, Amanda Elizabeth Sawicki, and Matthew (Maria) Sawicki; cousins, Edward (Diane) Sawicki, Thomas (Rebecca) Ciborski, and Jeannie (Mandrie) Pinzon; and many extended family members. Diane was predeceased by her brother, Richard Sawicki; her niece, Erin Rebecca Sawicki; and her companion, Francis Haruczki.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish), 70 Gulf St., Milford, CT (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 65-40 Grand Avenue, Maspeth, NY 11378. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center at www.mskcc.com.
