Bettie Jean Gissel, 76, of Milford, CT, beloved wife of David Gissel, Sr., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. Bettie was born on September 15, 1942 in Cheraw, SC, and was the daughter of the late David Mathis and Norma Newberry.
Bettie attended Fitch High School in Groton, CT and continued at Northeastern Technical College, graduating with an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Development. She worked in the manufacturing industry. Bettie was an active member of Harris Creek Baptist Church in South Carolina and enjoyed reading, traveling and playing Bingo. She was a loving, caring and devoted mother and grandmother. Bettie was happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Bettie leaves behind her husband, David; children, David (Sharon) Gissel, Jr., Deanna Baker and Andrea Williams; grandchildren, David Gissel III, Chase Williams, Sara Gissel, Caylee Williams, Brittney Baker and Cade Sessoms; siblings, Shirley (Boyd T.) Chewning, Curtis Polston, David (Milton) Mathis, Cindy (John) Sarver, Barbara (Sam) Khoury, Robert (Pam) Mathis and Frances (Marty) Salo; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Angela Burdell.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT. A Funeral Service will begin at 3:30 p.m. Interment will be private.
