Barbara A. Federico

November 26, 1940 ~ September 22, 2020 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Tribute

Barbara A. Federico, 79, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of Joseph Federico, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 26, 1940 in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella (Suchenski) Mieczkowski.

Barbara was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport and attended Central High School.  She was a stay-at-home mom, while her children were young, then worked in the cash office for the family business of People’s Warehouse Foods.  During the 1990’s while banks were continually consolidating, she was a bank teller and customer service representative for over 7 banks (and she kept a keychain from each one to prove it). Her next job was as a cashier/clerk in the tax collector’s office for the Town of Fairfield where so many Fairfield residents fondly remember being greeted by her familiar and friendly face when paying their taxes.  After more than 20 years of service she retired from the Town of Fairfield in 2016.

Barbara loved dogs and was affectionately nicknamed “Dog Whisperer”.  She loved spending time with her family, shopping, and traveling. She was married for 55 years to her loving husband Joe and they enjoyed visiting nearly every Caribbean island together where she loved to shop and soak up the sun.  She enjoyed many social gatherings with friends and extended family.  She cherished going on vacation with her children’s families to spend time with her grandchildren on their annual Disney trips, including going on all the roller coasters.  She was a rebel in every sense of the word, getting the first of her 11 tattoos at age 72, earning her the nickname “Mama Cool”.

Barbara was a mother figure to many, including her pets (Spunky, Gizmo, Shadow, Asti, Dixie & Munchkin).  She will be remembered as a kind, loving, generous, compassionate wife, mother, sister, grandma, aunt and sister-in-law who will be sadly missed.

In addition to her loving husband, Barbara is survived by her children John Mieczkowski, Sheryl Felisko (Greg), Joe Federico (Jen); grandchildren Brianna Felisko, Joey Federico, Anthony Federico, and sister Mary Sego, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She was predeceased by her grandson Nick Felisko, her brother Robert Mieczkowski, and her brother-in-law Joey Sego.

The family would like to thank everyone in the Hematology Program at Smilow Cancer Hospital who cared for Barbara during this time.

All services will be private at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nick Felisko ’16 Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Notre Dame High School, One Notre Dame Way, West Haven CT 06516.
