Nancy Shinn-Corbett, 53, of Milford, passed away peacefully in the company of loved ones on March 23, 2017, following a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Nancy was born in Westwood, NJ on April 18, 1963, to Jack and Millie (Keller) Shinn. After four years in New Jersey, she and her family moved to Milford, CT.  She graduated from Milford High School in 1981 and the University of Vermont in 1986.

Nancy had a long and varied career at Subway Global Headquarters which began in high school. Nancy’s keen problem-solving abilities and natural curiosity led her to computer work.  Initially self-taught as a programmer, she spent the majority of her career in the Technology department, a profession she enjoyed.

Her Subway employment was interrupted only by her college days at UVM and her excellent adventures in Germany with her sister Betsy, where she lived and travelled from 1990-1993. Much of that time, Nancy lived in Berchtesgaden and was employed as a tour guide – a job well-suited for smart and amiable Nancy.

On December 21, 1996, Nancy married David Lee Corbett, and together they moved a few doors down from her childhood home in Milford.  In 1998 their daughter Sophie arrived, bringing joy to their lives. When daughter Olivia was born in 2003, the happy family was complete.

Nancy was an intelligent, friendly, kindhearted and optimistic person who was happiest when spending time with her family. Joyful memories are cherished from the annual beach vacations and holidays with her extended family as well as Nancy’s regular visits to Disney World with her husband and girls. Her love of family was also evident in her tireless genealogical research, where she brought life to the family history.

Nancy loved dearly, and was dearly loved by her whole family. Nancy is survived by her husband Dave; her daughters Sophie and Olivia; her parents Jack and Millie Shinn; her brothers Jeff (Cat) Shinn of Greensboro, NC and Pete Shinn of Wilder, VT; and her sister Betsy (Don) Fertman of Bethany, CT. She also leaves behind her parents-in-law Charlie and Kathy Hill of Old Saybrook; brother-in-law Chris Corbett of East Haven; and nieces and nephews: Brittany, Christopher, Greg, Owen, Kaitlyn, Dausen, Duncan and Caroline with whom she shared her innate sense of wonder at how things worked and to whom she was a much-loved aunt.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the hospice nurses and caregivers.

Friends will gather to remember Nancy on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Milford Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nancy's memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. The family has been compassionately cared for by the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT.
