Tribute

Barbara Marie Ruotolo, 68, of Woodbridge, beloved wife of Louis Ruotolo, passed away on March 19, 2024. Born on December 19, 1955 she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Genevieve Langdon.

In addition to her beloved husband, Lou, Barbara is survived by her uncle, Thomas (Patricia) Langdon and his family; nieces and nephew, Carol Smith- (Lucian) Tammaro, Candy (Roger) Sicotte, Elizabeth (Donnie) Tanner, and Russell Uhlig; great nieces and nephews, Victoria and Brittany Sicotte, Tyler (Alanna) and Zachary Smith, Amanda Jo Tallerdy (Qadir) – Baqi and Dennis Jr. Tallerdy; great, great nieces and nephews Haven, Mayleen, and Chevy and her dear lifelong friend, MaryBeth (Stephen) Saltzman. Barbara was predeceased by her brother, Joesph Langdon, Jr. and nephew, Dennis Tallerdy.

Barbara graduated from St Ann’s Catholic school in Milford, Ct and from the Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Laurelton Hall also in Milford, Ct. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Ct then proceeded to obtain a master’s degree in accounting from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Ct.

Barbara began her professional employment at Simkins Industries in New Haven, Ct in their payroll department. Shortly thereafter she began employment at Avco Lycoming, Stratford, Ct, a manufacturer of small gas turbine engines and quickly advanced to the position of Payroll Manager overseeing a staff responsible for the payroll operations for approximately 6,000 personnel. Barbara loved her work at Avco and took great pride in ensuring all personnel received their correct compensation on time and with minimal disruptions. Barbara held the position for many years until the time of Lycoming’s closure while also increasing her responsibilities within the Human Resource organization. Following Lycoming’s closing in 1999, she performed payroll consulting work for Emsar Inc in Stratford, Ct. When Lycoming finally settled their union disputes, they contracted with Barbara to calculate and administer final payment to all affected. It was a large job taking several years to complete.

Following her employment Barbara decided to retire early and pursue personal interests. She was an impeccable cook and loved doing it. She regularly prepared scrumptious meals fit for a king. She also loved animals, she just adored her beloved Shih Tzu, Scruffy. She was fortunate to live in a very rural area where wildlife is plentiful. She loved the daily visitation from the local turkeys, rabbits, fox, deer, owls and now bears and always made sure they were fed! She loved to explore new places. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and as far west as Tahiti and as far east as Singapore. She loved the adventure of an unplanned trip. She would let chance find her way and as a result has had many memorable experiences. She loved and cherished her family. Although she had no children of her own, she had wonderful nieces / nephews who she enjoyed spending time with.

I, her husband, will miss her tremendously. I have known Barbara for 50 years and loved her for every one of them. It’s hard for me to imagine my life without her. She had a wonderful smile and great sense of humor that would brighten any room. She was a beautiful woman both inside and out. I am blessed that she chose to spend her life with me. I’m happy she had the opportunity to retire early and enjoy her personal time as life did not bestow her with enough of it. She will forever be in my thoughts and in my heart. My love for her is eternal.
